Imphal, November 12 2021:
Supporters of Keirao AC MLA on Friday allegedly threatened and damaged the house of an individual who made statements through media that people in Arapti Mamang Leikai were denied their share of NFSA rice for not hoisting BJP's flag in their houses.
Speaking at a press meet held in this regard, intending candidate Y Shanta expressed regret over such shameful actions of the local Meira Paibi and Club members against the people who had bravely spoken the truth.
Terming the threats and demands made to the people concerned to clarify for speaking the truth, Shanta remarked that the ongoing rice distribution activity carried out by the Meira Paibi and Club members of Arapti Mamang Leikai is against the rules.
The MLA has been campaigning for votes by assuring to downgrade the Nagar Panchayat status of the locality to Panchayat level.
If the MLA is able to downgrade the locality to Panchayat level before the Code of Conduct takes effect, Shanta vowed not to come to Arapti Mamang Leikai for election campaign.
The intending candidate suggested the people to try and escape from the deceitful web weaved by the MLA, if the latter fails to do what he has promised before the polls.
He then went on to say that the assault and property damage incident was abetted by the MLA indirectly.
L Ichan of Arapti Mamang Leikai, whose house was damaged by the supporters of the MLA', recalled that after she spoke about not receiving the rice through media on November 9, a group of around 10 people came to her house and started causing destruction.
The group also beat up her husband, while proceeding to install a BJP flag and held a public feast forcefully at her residence.
Ichan then condemned the destruction of her house especially considering the low income status of her family and as such, appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter.
