Licypriya announces fellowship for conflict affected students

Climate and environmental activist Licypriya Kangujam has announced a fellowship programme aimed at providing educational opportunities for the ethnic violence-affected students who are residing in relief camps or those who have lost their parents in the conflict, to pursue courses in engineering, nursing, and other medical fields.
In a press statement issued by the fellowship sponsor Licypriya Foundation, two seats each would be reserved for the conflict-affected students for studying MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, GNM, ANM, Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT), Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm), Diploma in Pharmacy (D Pharm), BSc Optometry, Medical Laboratory Technology, Operation Theatre Technology, Anaesthesia Technology, and Emergency Medicine Technology, B Tech in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, and IT.
The courses will be conducted at HiTech Medical College & Hospital and Hi-Tech College of Engineering in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, with a total of 30 seats allocated for these students.
Informing that the fellowship shall cover admission and tuition fees, the statement said students will have to bear the expense for hostel food, which is outsourced.
While MBBS and BDS seats are already filled, applications for other courses are open till October 30.Students can apply via Licypriya's email or Facebook.
The selection will on merit basis through a transparent process.
Hi-Tech Group chairman Dr Tirupati Panigrahi had announced the initiative during his visit to Imphal on July 26, moved by the plight of over 30,000 children staying in relief camps in the state.
According to Licypriya, the fellowship aims to alleviate the financial burden on families.
It also extends partial assistance to other underprivileged students in Manipur, offering a 50 per cent scholarship for tuition and admission fees, while students whose parents are employed may receive up to a 20 per cent discount.
This initiative is in addition to Licypriya's ongoing efforts to provide free education up to Class 10 and 12 for underprivileged students and children who lost their parents in the Manipur conflict.
