Imphal, November 11 2024:
Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup (SANULAL) denounced the killing Sapam Sophiya, a mother of three, by Kuki militants on Saturday while working in a paddy field at Watha Lambi Mayai Leikai under Bishnupur district.
In a release, SANULAL noted that farmers started to tend to their fields feeling safe due to deployment of central security forces, including the BSF.
However, the central forces prohibiting entry of people to even rescue the woman farmer hit by bullets fired by the Kuki militants, compels one to question commitment of the central forces stationed in the periphery villages in protecting civilian lives, the Lup opined, and suggested that instead of assuring and processing monetary compensation to the victims' families every time the Kuki militants launch attacks, ending the over 17-month long violence and prosecuting Kuki militants would be commendable.
Similarly, Shiv Sena, Manipur president M Tombi has strongly condemned the killing of a young woman while working in a paddy field in an attack by Kuki narco-terrorists near Saiton village in Bishnupur district on Saturday and demanded adequate security for farmers in fringe villages.
Currently in Mumbai, M Tombi informed The People's Chronicle through telephone that many unfortunate incidents have occurred amid the ongoing violence since May, 2023 with Kuki narco-terrorists resorting to aggression and slaying innocent civilians.
However, central forces never arrest Kuki narco-terrorists involved in attacking innocent villagers, he noted, while claiming that being the paddy harvest season, it was expected that Kuki narco-terrorists would be scheming to disrupt agricultural activities, which has been substantiated on Satruday.
Contrary to adequate security measures being the need of the hour to protect the farmers no such measures were taken up in time while central forces deployed in the state never arrest the attackers, Tombi maintained and strongly condemned partisan mindset of central forces.
Expressing strong resentment that both the state and central governments are unable to protect lives of the people, Tombi also raised serious concern over the fate of farmers in fringe villages in view of the Kuki narco-terrorists launching attacks with renewed vigour.
As such, he demanded round-the-clock security cover to villages in fringe area till completion of harvest season.
