Birth anniversary of RK Maipaksana commemorated

The RK Maipaksana Memorial Trust commemorated the 100th birth anniversary of RK Maipaksana at JN Manipur Dance Academy, here, on Friday.
As a part of the commemorative event, the RK Maipaksana Journalist Award 2024 was presented to Dr Chongtham Narendra Singh, a columnist of Poknapham.
Speaking as the chief guest, eminent filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma emphasised the importance of literature in expressing love for the nation.
Stating that reflecting on culture and identity in literary works would help enhance Manipur's profile, he also reminded the gathering that images portrayed in films and novels will never fade.
Syam Sharma said despite its relatively small geographical size Manipur is compatible with major states in every aspect, while also highlighting that the state is home to many established as well as talented artistes regardless of such personalities bereft of recognition they deserve.
He also informed about inclusion of Manipuri films like "Sanabi" and 'Matamgi Manipur" in the curriculum of Manipuri Department at a newly established university in Hojai, Assam.
Such recognition has never been granted by the state government, he said while stressing the need to establish a platform that acknowledges and honours artistes and writers of the state.
Presided over by Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal former president Nongmaithem Tombi Singh, the function also had Parishad president Longjam jaychandra Singh presenting a memorial lecture on the topic "Patriotism in Manipuri Poetry and Lyrics".
As a mark of respect, floral tributes were offered to the photograph of RK Maipaksana during the event.
Additionally, the Meetei Mayek edition of the book titled "Manipur Da Ehan Hanba Satyagraha Andolan", written by late RK Maipaksana, was released on the occasion.
