The Meetei Mayek edition of the Sahitya Akademi Award winning novel - set with the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 as its backdrop, is about the love affair of princess Sanatombi, daughter of Maharaja Surchandra, and Lt Col Henry St P Maxwell, the British political agent of Manipur.
"This edition will be especially useful for students of Manipur University which has 'Boro Saheb Ongbi San-atombi' as part of its curriculum at the Masters level.
We thank Amit Das and Imasi Foundation adviser Satyajit Aribam of EV Mobility, and Rahul Manav of Samyak Entrepreneurs for their support," said Foundation's founder and managing trustee L Somi Roy.
"Our series of Meetei Mayek editions of the works of my Inemsi Sana Wangoi will further research and study of not only her literature but also the crucial historical period of the novel," added Wangam Somojjit, historian and member of Imasi Foundation's Advisory Council.
"It is especially meaningful for us to offer the book after the Jalakeli to our Iningthou Ibudhou Sanakahya Narasingh as our Pala was founded by him in 1845," the release quoted Thoidingjam Lakshmipriya Devi, head of the Pala and the eldest grandchild of Maharaja Churachand Singh and Maharani Dhanamanjuri, the parents of MK Binodini Devi as saying.
