Efforts on to buy textile designing software: E Jiten

Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited managing director E Jiten has informed that efforts are underway to purchase a software to allow skilled weavers to weave different and trendy textile designs.
A five-day training programme on Weave pattern Designs and Implementations' under National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) organised by Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles for textile designers and CDEs at Panthoibi Archade, Wangkhei culminated on Friday afternoon.
Speaking at the closing function as the chief guest, director Jiten emphasised that the introduction of new technology will not affect the traditional way.

But with modernisation, weavers who can adapt and are able to climb up some levels need to learn how to utilise different technologies and inputs to better understand the preferences of the global consumer community.
As such, the training programme was organised to train the weavers in this regard, he added.
He then urged the CDEs and designers to identify which weavers are best suited and capable of joining this change.
The mega handloom cluster of Imphal East will cover 16,000 weavers, of which weavers, who could apply web designing technology, need to be identified.
It is time to upgrade the sector and promote them at the national and international level, thereby helping to increase the income of the state.
Informing that discussions are underway to send a proposal to the government to purchase a textile designing software for weavers, Jiten, however, said that this would not include the previously reserved aspects which are not applicable for machines.
The software would also be monitored to ascertain how much technology can be utilised in this field.
The closing function was attended by Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles deputy director Th Basanta, C-Dac Kolkata scientist-E Yumnam Kirani and Handloom national awardee Kangujam Medha among others.
