Seminar on Manipuri culture organised

Chiru Union Northeast and Chiru Student's Welfare Society Manipur jointly organised a one-day national seminar On 'Manipuri Literature, Culture and Folklore' at the conference hall of the Department of Commerce, Manipur University on Saturday.
The seminar was attended by MU former VC in-charge Prof Soram Sanatombi as chief guest, Chiru Union Northeast president MS Neichung Chiru as president; Tamenglong district ADC member Alar Thoitak; Manipuri Language Advisory Board Sahitya Academy New Delhi former convenor Nongmaithem Kirankumar; Department of Manipuri MU head Prof Loitongbam Birjita Devi and Department of Philosophy, Imphal College head Ngamkholen Sukreng as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Chiru Union Northeast president MS Neichung Chiru said that Chiru, despite being a small community, has a high status in literature.
However, at one point of time, lack of proper education and exposure to literature had threatened the literary potentials of the small Chiru population, he noted.
Nowadays, many Chiru youths have come to hold masters and even doctorate degrees, which has improved our position in promoting Chiru literature, culture and folklore," he informed and urged the youth to continue focusing on promotion of Chiru literature.
As part of the seminar, two technical sessions were held, wherein various resource persons presented their papers.
