Imphal, April 09 2022:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has urged Board of Secondary Education (BSEM) to act against schools that are teaching textbooks which are not prescribed by the Board, despite its order for not using unprescribed textbooks.
In a release, KSA secretary general Th Johnson stated that there is no harm in gaining extra knowledge, but to compulsorily teach books that are not prescribed by Board gives undue stress on the mind of young students.
It is an open knowledge that commercial gain is the main reason behind such practice in state.
Compulsorily teaching textbooks not prescribed by BSEM has turned education sector into a commercial sector.
Some schools are getting commissions from book companies for using textbooks published by these companies, it claimed.
KSA noted that BSEM has so far taken no action against such schools in spite of its order banning use of unprescribed textbooks.
It is time that the Board takes necessary actions against such schools or it will be taken that the Board is in cahoots with these schools.
In such a condition, KSA will take measures against schools and BSEM officials.
The Association will soon announce the names of schools that are defying BSEM's order, it further warned.
