Training prog on PGS-India certification begins

Imphal, August 08 2024: Regional Centre for Organic and Natural Farming (RCONF), Imphal and Green Foundation, Regional Council Imphal jointly launched a two-day training programme on PGS-India Certification' at the Farmer Convention Centre of the Foundation, here, on Thursday.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Centre's junior scientific officer Dr Srinivasa-murthy R noted that in-spite of organic farming activities gaining momentum in the northeastern states including Manipur, many farmers are yet to have their organic products properly certified and as such, face a hard time entering a profitable market to sell the organic products.

Thus, a training programme on Participatory Guarantee System (PGS)-India Certification was organised wherein farmers will be taught on organic farming certifications, he stated.

Green Foundation advisor Sagolsem Sumangol stated that the training programme aims to inform the farmers about organic certification through various stakeholders.

The inaugural function was also attended by RCONF Imphal deputy director Dr VY Deoghare, MOBCDNER Department of Agriculture project officer Kh Nimaichand Green Foundation Research and Development secretary Rinita Thiyam, extension officers of state government, representatives of Regional Council and service providers among others.
