Imphal, July 07 2022:
Manipur Apex Cooperative Marketing Society Limited chairperson Kh Indira Devi has requested the authority concerned to extend the upcoming Board election for a new chairperson of the Society by about 4 months.
Addressing a press meet held at the Society's Chingmeirong office here on Thursday, Kh Indira said that the election for the Board members, who would be electing the new chairperson, was scheduled in May.
However, the notification issued cannot be put into action as per the bye-law.
The instruction to hold the election within a month, instead of providing a time period of 6 months, is unreasonable.
Nonetheless, an RO has been appointed and efforts are being made to hold the election as per the notification.
As such, the DDOs of 16 districts have submitted reports spanning only 8 months, while 7 are pending.
After the reports are complete, a general body meeting would be organised, following which the election is to be conducted.
Thus, a request has been made to the minister concerned to extend the pre-election period by 4 months, she informed, while urging all Societies not to continue filing cases for holding the polls within a month and instead work together to hold the election at the appropriate time.
