Imphal, August 04 2015:
Southern Tangkhul Naga Baptist Association (SYNBA) has in a statement strongly condemned the submergence of two churches as a result of the increased water level of the Mapithel dam.
Dr Daniel Kashung, executive secretary of SYNBA says that apart from the two churches, the church office; buildings were also submerged leaving no place of worship for the people there.
All these are taking place before the compensation settlement for the church buildings.
He also said that the memorial stones and graveyards shall go under water for ever.
This will amount to violation of the right to religion which is enshrined in the constitution.
Paddy fields, homesteads, etc had been brought under water.
The Association says that there should be temporary arrangements till proper buildings are constructed.
The church members should also be given temporary shelters before the construction of permanent buildings.
