Heavy rains lash Noney district

Noney, October 02 2024:
Normal life in Noney district has been severely disrupted by heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
Massive landslides and mudslides occurred across the region, particularly impacting NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) between Awangkhul (Luangchum) and Rangkhung (Langkhong) villages.
This area is known for frequent landslides and mudslides, which have recently rendered the road impassable for several days, leaving many vehicles stranded on both sides, awaiting clearance of debris.
Efforts by the road construction company to clear the debris have been hampered by continuous rainfall.
Additionally, the incessant rains have caused damage to wet paddy fields in low-lying areas.
There are also reports of landslides in other sections along NH-37.In Longmai Bazar, the main commercial hub of Noney, torrential rains caused surface water to overflow due to poor drainage system.
Noney district is known for the past few years for its unpredictable weather situation and natural calamities.
The continuous rainfall has also started flooding Longmai town and nearby areas causing hindrance in the day to day functioning of the people.
Electricity and power failures also followed suit as a result of the heavy downpour.
As per weather reports and forecast, it is said that from Tuesday the condition in Noney will further deteriorate.
Temperatures will vary between 26�Gand 33�C and there is warning of reduced visibility early in the day.
