A 15-member team of Wood-Stalks Adventure Club on Monday left for educational Trekking Expedition to Gori Chen Mountains in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Gori Chen is a glacier-fed mountain group in the Eastern Himalayas and is the third highest peak in northeast.
The main objectives for organising the expedition is to instil the spirit of adventurism, enhance courage and self-confidence, inure survival situations, hardships, challenges, privation, etc., develop leadership qualities, imbibe team spirit, enable the youth particularly the students to cultivate good health, toughen physically and mentally, and to enable the youth to abstain from bad habits and unhealthy lifestyle, to study and learn about different environments, culture, etc., said a release.
It is said that the Club has organised mountaineering expedition to Dz-ongri La in Sikkim, trekking to Cherapunjee in Meghalaya, 2400km long coastal trekking from Tamil Nadu to Mumbai (Maharashtra), expedition to Zanskar river in Ladakh, trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal and many others in Manipur.
In one of the discovery expeditions in the state, the Club had excavated the engine of an Allied Forces aircraft which crashed on Kounu mountain during World War 11, it added.
