Van Mahotsav celebrated

Imphal, June 30 2022:
The 73rd Van Mahotsav (Festival of Forest) celebration was jointly organised by Forest Department, Tamei Range and Tamei Battalion at Tamei in Tamenglong district on Thursday.
The programme held with an aim to spread consciousness and importance of trees and conservation of forest by planting more trees for future generations and climate control was attended by water resources minister Awangbow Newmai as chief guest, range forest officer Tamei Khundrakpam Johnson as president along with Tamei Bn representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Awangbow Newmai emphasised that man-made disasters can be avoided to an extent by taking precautionary measures like avoiding mass deforestation and uncontrolled forest fire.
He also pointed out the importance of afforestation and its long-term benefits to the villagers both environmentally and economically.
The celebration culminated with tree plantation by the minister and representatives of Tamei Bn and Forest Department and distribution of tree sapling to the villagers.
More than 3000 saplings were distributed and planted at designated locations during the event.
The growth of the planted saplings would be monitored by the Forest Department.
