Imphal, August 28 2021:
Remembering Haipou Jadonang's campaign to free the people from the yoke of British colonial rulers on the occasion of his 90th death anniversary, which falls on Sunday, Kabui Union Manipur (KUM) has called upon the people of the state to jointly observe the tribute event by arranging candle light vigil in their respective localities.
In a statement, KUM said that Jadonang was a freedom fighter who stood against the British colonial rule by forming an army group in the early 20th Century.
Jadonang motivated the youth to fight for freedom and fought against imposition of house tax and forced labour for which he was hanged to death on August 29, 1931 on the charge of waging war against the British crown.
Even after the British left, their divide and rule policy are still haunting the state and its indigenous communities.
However, the union has been at the forefront of bringing unity and integrity among the different communities while following the path shown by the freedom fighter.
On his death anni versary, village authorities of all Kabui villages will offer prayer for peaceful repose of his soul and for welfare of the society, the statement said and appealed to all to observe candle light vigil in the evening in their respective homes.
