Farmers' awareness / training prog held

ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Manipur Centre in association with Institute of Cooperative Management, Imphal and Alumni Association of Agriculture College, Imphal organised one-day awareness cum training programme for farmers on 'Quality Seed Production' at Hungpung village in Ukhrul district on Saturday.
Speaking at the programme, ICAR Manipur Centre joint director I Meghachandra stressed that instead of imitating others, we should focus on ascertaining what crops are suitable for cultivation in the state and thereby, help in increasing the income of farmers through production of high yield value seeds/crops.
Under the supervision of ICAR Institute of Seed Science, different quality and high yield seeds are being produced for the hilly region of the north-eastern states.
In Manipur's context, ICAR Manipur Centre is working with different KVKs in this regard, including organising training cum awareness programmes for farmers, while keeping the target of doubling the income of farmers in mind, he said.
During the programme, the farmers of Hungpung were informed by agricultural experts on how to produce high quality crops/seeds, prevent infestation, type of fertilisers to be used and how to increase the yield.
The programme was also attended by KVK, Ukhrul head Dr Solei Luiram, SMS Dr Ajit; Bo taneco, Calgary, Canada project manager Dr 0 Gunamani, CAU Imphal professor Dr A Herojit, ICM director Dr K Joychandra and CAU, Imphal professor Dr L Nabachandra.
