SDCC conducts surprise checking at Senapati Bazar

Senapati, July 27 2022:
Senapati District Consumers' Club (SDCC), Manipur on Tuesday carried out a surprise checking at Senapati bazar to curb illegal malpractice under Food Safety and standard weighing machines in the town.
The members of SDCC were accompanied by the District Food Safety Administration, Karong Senapati Town Committee and CSOs including Naga People's Organization, Senapati District Students Association and Senapati District Women's Association.
The team visited all slaughterhouses operating in the town and gave stem warnings against misuse of the weighing machine while selling meat.
They also gave awareness about possible penalties and fines against anyone caught in the act.
The team urged all consumers to be wary of such malpractices and check the weighing machine before buying anything.
During the surprise check, the team seized some tempered weighing machines and stones used for weighing by shopkeepers along with expired food items worth about Rs 40,000 from 14 grocery shops.
The team also checked the permits of women vendors issued by District Food Safety Administration at Women Market (Apfii Saliki).
It may be mentioned that SDCC in association with the Standard Weight and Measurement Department had also conducted surprise checks on all slaughterhouses in the past.
