Imphal, August 25 2024:
The ILDS Dream Catcher Scholarship is aimed at giving fresh hopes to the economically disadvantaged medical and engineering students of the state, said ILDS medical superintendent Dr Sashikumar Mangang.
Addressing media persons in this regard at the ILDS conference hall in Kwakeithel, here, on Saturday, Dr Sashikumar announced that the ILDS Dream Catcher Scholarship has been instituted to address the economic challenges faced by students from disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing medical and engineering courses.
He further stated that the scholarship will be awarded to one student each in medical and engineering courses.
Eligible candidates must be government nominees who have passed the NEET UG or JEE exams and are admitted to a state government institute.
Priority will be given to students from low-income families who cleared the exams in their first attempt; those who passed in the second attempt will be considered if no first-attempt candidates are available.
The scholarship funds will be deposited into the institute's bank account and cover admission, examination, library, caution, and book grant fees.
If a student is unable to take exams due to health issues during the scholarship period, the scholarship duration will be extended accordingly.
While explaining the reason for offering the scholarship to those students who are government nominees, Dr Sashikumar said that government scholarships often face delays or may not be disbursed even after students complete their courses.
To address these issues and alleviate financial problems for students, ILDS has introduced this scholarship to ensure timely support and safeguard students' careers, he explained.
ILDS managing director Dr N Surajkuamr added that the scholarship aims to encourage students from economically disadvantaged families to pursue careers in medical and engineering fields.
He also noted that candidates will be selected by a committee of experts from various fields after thorough evaluation.
