Vitiligo not contractable: Dr Nelson

As observed across the globe, Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists, Manipur State Branch observed World Vitiligo Day at Sangai Hotel, near Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak on Saturday.
JNIMS Dermatology Department senior resident doctor and Association's Manipur State Branch secretary Dr Nelson said that the observance is held create awareness about 'Vitiligo' (white patches on skin) and to clear the misconception that those infected by the disease are untouchables.
While stating that Vitiligo is not contractable, he said that the observance, which began from 2011, is held every year to encourage people suffering from Vitiligo to seek proper treatment as well as to ring out the message to all sections of the society to treat people infected by Vitiligo as normal people.
Further explaining that the disease of pigmentation on skin is due in disorder in immune system, he urged people suffering from Vitiligo to get treatment at the earliest.
Dr Nelson also called upon the people to develop the habit of treating the disease before it gets serious.
The observance was attended by members of Association, doctors, experts and recovering patients.
