Imphal, August 21 2021:
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Senapati under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) organised a one-day online awareness programme on "Victim compensation scheme in Manipur: Identifying the problems faced by the applicants/victim families and role of CSOs, PLVs and panel lawyer" on Saturday.
Speaking on the topic, MASLSA deputy member secretary Sorokhaibam Sadananda informed that the process of all POCSO cases should be resolved as soon as possible and compensation should be awarded to the victim within a month of resolution of the case.
For other cases, compensation should be provided within 3 months from the date of resolution.
The delay in providing the compensation could be attributed to lack of state funds and normal processing of files at the Secretariat office.
The programme was attended by DLSA Senapati chairman Samom Ibjen, secretary Tarunakumari, Addl PP District and Sessions Court (Senapati) Koshila Mao, JMFC (Kangpokpi) Ningombam Sonara-ni, CSO leaders of Senapati and Kangpokpi, retainer lawyer S Marysena, DLSA front office, panel lawyers and PLVs.
