Imphal, September 20 2021:
Citing improvement in the COVTD-19 pandemic situation in the state, United Bus Owners' Welfare Association (UBOWA) along with Union of Northern Transport, Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Bus Owners' Association and Mayang Imphal Road Transport Cooperative Society Limited has drawn attention of the government towards the need for issuing a special SOP so that bus service in the state could resume.
UBOWA secretary B Dhanabir informed media persons during a press conference held at Imphal-Chu-rachandpur Road Bus Owners and Workers' Association office at Keishampat here on Sunday that bus service resumed after the first wave of COVID-19 with 50 percent reduction of fare but the service was stopped after the second wave hit the state.
It has been more than five months that the bus service in the state has stopped following the onset of second wave of the pandemic and around 1,000 passenger buses of the state have been laid off the road, he said, adding that stoppage of bus service has hit hard bus drivers and owners.
With slight improvement in the situation of Covid-19 second wave, government has relaxed the restriction on certain sectors, he pointed out while urging authority concerned and the government to formulate a new rule or SOP as well so as to enable bus service to resume.
The press conference was also attended by representatives of Union of Northern Transport, Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Bus Owners' Association and Mayang Imphal Road Transport Co-operative Society Limited.
UBOWA had reportedly submitted a memorandum in this regard to authority concerned few days back.
