Minister urged to demarcate reserved forest

Kangchup Chiru Village Authority has submitted a memorandum to the minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for early demarcation of the Kangchup Chiru Reserved Forest and deliver justice to victims of forced eviction carried out on December 6, 2022 at Kangchup Chiru village.
In a release, the Village Authority informed that the memorandum Categorically stated that the eviction in 2022 was iri violation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and section 19 of UNDRIP, 2007.While demanding precise demarcation of the Kangc hup Chiru Reserve Forest as per official document and the original map, it urged for paying compensation to two families who were forcibly evicted and suffered material losses and damages.
The release also urged to revoke the FIR registered against nine people of Kangchup Chiru village for defending their rights over forest and land.
