Motivating youngsters important: Basantakumar

There is a need to encourage the younger generations to dream and motivate them to work hard to realise their dreams, Education minister Thounaojam Basantakumar has stated.
He made the statement at the 7th foundation anniversary of National Sports University (NSU) held at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex on Thursday.
In his address, Basantakumar said that the state is proud of its sport prowess, and deserves its title as the "Powerhouse of sports in India" .
He then highlighted the important role played by NSU faculty and students in proper functioning of the University.
He continued that despite being a small state, Manipur has produced 19 Olympians of which 11 are women, underscoring strength and determination of Manipuri women.

In the per capita index, Manipur produces the highest number of sports persons, and as such, it is gratifying to see players from other states and union territories with diverse backgrounds studying at NSU.
It would not be wrong to say that NSU is a mini India, he remarked, adding that the establishment of NSU in Manipur would not have been possible without the efforts of extraordinary sportspersons of Manipur The minister then stressed the need to understand the importance in our daily life and the country.
He further emphasised the importance of maintaining self-discipline for succeeding in life, while stating that we should not forget the contributions of all those who helped in setting up Khuman Lampak Sports complex.
Speaking on the occasion, NSU, Imphal VC Prof Usha S Nair expressed satisfaction in working for the University, while adding that she learnt a lot from the strong- willed and courageous women of Manipur.
During the function, Olympians Nameirakpam Kunjarani, Kshetrimayum Thoiba Singh, Ngangbam Soniya Devi; Dronacharya awardee Leishangthem Ibomcha Singh; Arjuna awardees Mayanglambam Bimoljit Singh and Naorem Roshibina Devi were honoured with gifts.
Exemplary sportsperson of the University's academic year 2023-24 were also felicitated on the occasion.
