Strong judiciary and Bar vital for rule of law: Muralidhar

High Court of Manipur Justice MV Muralidhar has stressed the importance of a strong judiciary and Bar to see to the adherence of rule of law in the country.
All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) celebrated its 75th Foundation Day at Cheirap Court Complex, Uripok here on Thursday.
Presided over by AMBA president Puyam Tomcha Meetei, the celebration function was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba as special guest and High Court of Manipur Justice MV Muralidhar as chief guest while Justice A Bimol Singh, High Court Bar Association Manipur president N Ibotombi, advocate general Lenin Hijam and Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arunkumar were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Muralidhar pointed out that lawyers and judges are one family and fraternity, and they are tasked with the responsibility of delivering justice.
The justice system constitutes of Bar and Bench and as such, both need to work together in the interest of the people.
In his speech, Justice Bimol observed that the various district courts of the state are in deplorable condition and lack requisite infrastructure.
Moreover, the courts in the hill districts are even worse as they lack a court building, judicial officers and residential quarters of staff.
In addition, no land is allotted for construction of courts in hill districts.
The judicial officers and advocates, who are continuing to perform their duties under such condition should be laud ed, he said, while informing that the government has been urged to take care of the deficiencies at the earliest.
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba contended that Manipur lacks a proper judicial establishment.
Although there are many lawyers, there is lack of legal awareness amongst the masses.
As such; he urged AMBA to shoulder the responsibility of spreading legal awareness among the people.
Meanwhile, MLA Arunkumar said that the law profession is highly competitive.
He then said that elected representatives must respect the judiciary and uphold the judgements passed by the court in the interest of the people.
As part of the function, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the deceased members of the Association.
Later, a pension scheme of members above 70 years of age was launched on the occasion, followed by presentation of certificates to members who are also blood donors.
