Imphal, May 15 2022: Jeet Kune Do Association, Manipur felicitated the state team, which won 17 medals including 16 gold and one silver at the 4th South Asian Jeet Kune Do Championships 2022 held in Nepal, in a function held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, here on Sunday.

YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam and Manipur Olympic Association president MLA Th Radheshyam attended the function as chief guest and president respectively while TDUCO president L Rajen, HADO general secretary A Bimol and OSD directorate of university and higher education Dr Ajit were present as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, minister Govindas hailed the local clubs and voluntary organisations for their role in cultivating a sporting culture from the grassroots level, which is the major reason behind the sporting talents of the state.

The spirit and talents of the state players are commendable considering the fact that they have been groomed to reach such level in the absence of proper funding.

The government acknowledges the situation and will try to bring necessary improvement in the sector.

He further said that Jeet Kune Do was included in Asian Games from last year and Manipur Olympic Association has also recognised the event.

Consequently, the government will extend similar facilities enjoyed by players of other disciplines to them too, he maintained.

The minister also stressed the need for proper use of existing facilities.
