AR commemorates International E-Waste Day

Assam Rifles commemorated International E-Waste Day on Monday with a series of events at Jou-pi, Chandel district to raise awareness about the importance of proper electronic waste managemept, educate civilians and troops alike on how to responsibly dispose of and recycle e-waste, to contribute to global efforts in reducing environmental harm caused by discarded electronic devices.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the participants were informed about more than 53.6 million tonnes generated globally every year, with India contributing around 3.2 million tonnes annually, making it the third-largest e-waste producer in the world.
The campaign focused on highlighting the environmental and health hazards caused by improper disposal, while also stressing the value of recycling, which not only recovers valuable components but also prevents pollution.
The release further informed that a lecture on e-waste recycling was delivered, offering practical insights on how old and broken electronics can be sustainably managed, apart from conduct of an essay competition for students to encourage them reflect on the importance of e-waste management and how individuals can contribute to tackling the growing issue.
