Imphal, November 13 2024:
The indefinite bandh imposed along the Imphal-Ukhrul road by Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force since Tuesday has been suspended with immediate effect.
Speaking to the media at Sekta, Volunteer Force commander Yumkhaibam Bashan informed that the blockade has been suspended considering difficulties faced by the people, rising prices of essential commodities, and in view of harvest season.
He recounted that an agreement was reached with the state government on deployment of state forces in periphery villages such as Shanti Khongbal, Sabungkhok Khunou, Thamnapokpi, and Sanasabi, all under Lamlai assembly constituency, to protect the local population from attacks by Kuki militants.
However, as the government failed to comply with the agreement, the indefinite blockade along the Imphal-Ukhrul stretch of the state highway in Lamlai constituency was imposed on Tuesday.
