48-hour bandh imposed along J-T road

Traffic along Jiri-Tipaimukh (J-T) road in Jiribam district has been severely affected as a 48-hour long bandh imposed to denounce the deplorable condition of the state highway by Chlngdong Leikai Development Organisation (CLDO) came into effect.
Members of CLDO and residents of nearby Champanagar, Ningthembam and other locals came out on the road and blocked the highway at Dibong Lamlong from Sunday evening.
No vehicle except emergency and those ferrying school/college going students were allowed to move along the road.
Chingdong Leikai Meira Club president A Gopimohon Sharma told media persons that the J-T road has been in a deplorable condition for the past many years but no action has been initiated to improve it.
Local MLA had inspected deplorable condition of the road repeatedly but no positive action is forthcoming till date.
As the last reminder, a memorandum was submitted to authority concerned on May 25 with an ultimatum for taking up positive action to improve the road by June 10, he said, adding that people settling along the road were compelled to impose the bandh as no positive response came from the authority to improve the road.
He also said that the 48-hour bandh may be extended if the government remains silent on the matter.
According to local women, Jiribam MLA and DC Jiribam are passing through the deplorable road almost every day but they are Still reluctant to improve the road.
