New tribal body UTCM formed

Imphal, October 12 2024:
United Tribal Council, Manipur (UTCM), an umbrella body encompassing and representing all sections of the tribal communities in the state, was constituted on Friday at Tangkhul Avenue community hall.
The new body aims to work for tribal aspirations, emancipations, rights and solidarity.
A press release issued by UTCM informed that Yaruin-gam Ningshen has been unanimously elected as president of the body, while John Pamei elected as vice-president, Athui Panmei as general secretary, KS Graceson Soso as finance secretary, R Asing as assistant general secretary and H Shimray as information and publicity secretary among others.
Moreover, an Advisory and Planning Committee (APC) has also been put in place with Ningreingam Kashung as the convener, and Samson Keishing, Paothing Awungshi, Dr Chand Thangmi and DL Leivon as members.
The advisory board will assist, advice, counsel and mentor the functionaries of the UTCM in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities, it mentioned.
The release further informed that advocate Peter Kapai would be the legal advisor whenever any legal issue arises.
The other vacancies in the executive council would be filled up in due course of time with proper consultation with other tribes, the released added.
