Imphal, September 08 2021: The order issued on September 1 for induction of MLAs representing 9 Assembly constituencies as members of Hills Areas Committee (HAC) has been withdrawn with immediate effect.

Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary K Meghajit Singh has issued an order in this regard on Wednesday.

Mention may be made here that various tribal organisations in the state have been demanding cancellation of the September 1 order.

Shorty after, an emergency meeting of HAC was convened on September 6 wherein it observed that the order for induction of 8 MLAs on September 1 was unconstitutional and as such, demanded for its immediate withdrawal.

The HAC meeting which was held on September 6 and attended by 6 INC MLAs, 2 NPF MLAs, 2 BJP MLAs and 1 NPP MLA, remarked that the September 1 order for induction of MLAs from un-scheduled areas was unconstitutional and against the First Schedule enforced by the Indian president in 1977.Thus, the meeting demanded immediate withdrawal of the order.
