Imphal, July 08 2022:
Following an understanding reached with agriculture minister Th Biswajit, the proposed 24 hours bandh against urea shortage called by Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Manipur Prant has been put on hold for the time being.
According to Manipur Prant general secretary Philem Dara, the Sangh along with farmers of the state launched agitation on June 25 against non-distribution of urea fertilizer to farmers despite submission of relevant documents to the agriculture department.
Dissatisfied with piling up of documents submitted by farmers for getting urea at the agriculture department and district agriculture offices, the Sangh called a state wide bandh from Friday midnight but it has been kept in abeyance after agriculture minister Th Biswajit assured of taking up prompt necessary action for providing urea fertilizer to farmers.
He also said that the Sangh will observe government's steps to provide urea to farmers closely and decide on calling bandh or not after discussion with the farmers.
