Finance Commission team likely on Nov 7

Imphal, November 05 2024:
The Sixteenth Finance Commission team, currently in Nagaland state, is expected to arrive here on November 7 and hold discussion with officials on development projects to be taken up in the state for five years beginning from April 1, 2026 .
The Sixteenth Finance Commission was constituted on December 31, 2023 with former NITI Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya as chairman.
As per source, the Commission team currently in Nagaland comprises chairman Arvind Panagariya and members Ajay Narayan Jha, Annie George Mathew and Manoj Pande.
After three days in Nagaland, the team is expected to reach Imphal on November 7 for which preparations have been made to facilitate meeting with state officials including chief minister and ministers.
The source further informed that state government is planning to inform the commission about funds the state has received from the Central government through Centrally Sponsored Scheme and propose grant-in-aid for projects to be taken up in the coming five years.
State government is also preparing for power point presentation pertaining to demand special grant and projects for different sectors.
The Sixteenth Finance Commission team is also likely to meet representatives of different sectors like trade, commerce & industries, rural and urban local bodies and leaders of political parties, and make spot assessment of projects being taken up by state government and local bodies.
Notably, the commission is to submit its recommendation to the government of India by October 31, 2025.The commission will decide funds to be provided for projects to be taken up in different states for five years beginning from April 1, 2026 .
