Imphal, June 05 2022:
While asserting that Salangthen at Thangjing hill is a sacred place associated with Kabui Salang Maiba (Ramnganpou) of Moirang Kangleiron, Kabui Union, Manipur has appealed to Kuki Cultural & Heritage Preservation Association (KCHPA) to remove the sign board that the association has put up at Salangthen.
According to a statement of Kabui Union, a sign board is being erected at the entry point of Salangthen by KCHPA preventing entry of non-Kuki people and claimed the area as Kuki ancestral land.
The Kabui Union also said that Kukis came to Manipur in the year 1830-40 while Khamba and Khamnu of Moirang Kangleiron were adopted and brought up by Kabui Salang Maiba at Salangthen Chamanglong Kabui village during the period 1083-1138 AD .
Kabui community is one of the aborigines of Manipur settled in the land since time immemorial and Kuki Intellectual Forum must make this history aware to Kukis who are unaware of it, the Kabui Union said, aciding that people who are unaware of Moirang Kangleiron cannot be native of Manipur.
The union then appealed to government to look into illegal act of KCHPA and declare 30 acres area at Salangthen as heritage site.
