MCM opposes shifting of SBI Moreh branch

Imphal, August 03 2024: Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has raised strong objection to the demand for shifting of the Moreh branch of State Bank of India (SBI) from its present location to Kuki settlement area.

Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, MCM advisor N Phulindro said that the demand of Kuki people to relocate the SBl branch from the current location to Kuki settlement area is unreasonable.

It is also ridiculous for them to claim that they feel uneasy to have Meetei police personnel near the bank.

The current location of the bank branch was decided upon jointly by Hill Tribal Council, Tamil Sangam, Manipur Muslim Council and MCM on October 4, 2013 .

The site was selected due to its proximity to the police station since the bank would need adequate security protection, he pointed out, and added that they cannot accept relocation of the bank branch anywhere while drawing attention of the authority concerned.
