Senapati, July 03 2022: Liyai Range, Senapati Forest Division in collaboration with Khumai (Tunggam Union), Hiiduna Council and Hills Eco-Adventure Tourism, Manipur (HEAT-M) organised a tree plantation programme at Dziiduri Eco-Tourism Park and Purul village as part of the celebration of 73rd Van Mahotsav, 2022.More than 7000 saplings of cassia, gulmohar, ceylon ironwood, walnut, oak, alder, camphor, etc., were planted by the participants in synergy with the government's vision of planting 75 lakh saplings by August in commemoration of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Speaking on the occasion, Khumai (Tunggam) Union president Kho Peter, remarked that the millennial generation today are over-stimulated by smartphones and computer screens but has lost connection with mother nature.

"We ought to make concerted effort to reconnect with her by restoring her health through community tree plantation", he said.

Daniel Rona, a leader of Hiiduna Council, echoed the same sentiment.

"The next generation needs to be immersed in nature to truly value its sacredness.

If children lose contact with nature, they won't fight for it.

To save the endangered environment for the future generation must be our fundamental duty", he said.

On the other hand, HEAT-M president Traole Rai was optimistic about Dziiduri's huge tourist potential and said that the main objective of choosing the site for afforestation is to provide a gorgeous tree-lined hiking track that are easy to access and the visitors value trees.

enthusiasm and collaboration, Benjamin Ziipao, the range officer of Liyai Range, said: "The participatory approach with direct community involvement by oath to plant one tree per individual is the first of its kind in the region.

This reforestation strategy leans towards offsetting pollution and helping attain sustainable development goals".

The village authorities and youth members from the village joined the community plantation and made it a huge success.
