Imphal, February 03 2022:
While confiding that authorities concerned have failed to give any reply on the demand for rescheduling the date of election on February 27, which falls on Sunday, All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has stated that it would file a case in the court if the humble request to fix another day for the election goes unheeded.
Speaking to media persons at MBC Church premises here on Thursday, president S Prim Vaiphei informed that AMCO had on January 17 submitted a memorandum to CEO demanding to change the date of polling for the first phase as it falls on Sunday.
However, no response has been given till now, he lamented, while urging the government to respect religious sentiment.
He recalled that a similar case occurred in 1999 wherein the day of election fell on Sunday.
During that time, a case was taken up by Gauhati High Court and the polling date was rescheduled.
Informing that a Christian Action Committee has been formed to discuss plans of action to be taken up, Prim Vaiphei reiterated the decision of dragging the matter to the court if positive response is not given.
