Imphal, June 01 2022:
CJM Imphal West has remanded the two retired officials of the Revenue Department, who are accused in a case related with manipulation of land records, to judicial remand for 15 days.
As per submission of the IO, the two manipulated the Vandyke map and original P-70 sheet No.4, boundary of CS Dag No 3126 of Chaobok village in Waithou area by scratching off with a sharp blade and re-drawn extending towards protected Waithou Hills region.
The two are also accused of arbitrarily increasing the area of CS Dag No 3126 measuring 0.0906 hectare to 0.9639 hectare, which took place during the tenure of the then Head Draughtsman namely, Soibam Luke Singh (accused No 1), who is now 74 years old.
Moreover, Luke disclosed that he was approached by (accused no 2) Okram Munal alias Maimu (69 years) with the request for manipulating the boundary of the plot at the behest of Ashem Brajamani, who was introduced to him by Munal.
However, his counsel submitted that he was the keeper of Vandyke map but did not have access to Dag Chithas while denying the charge of increasing the size of the land plot.
Counsel of the second accused denied any involvement in the manipulation of land records and Vandyke map.
Both the counsels prayed for releasing the two on bail considering lack of concrete evidence and health condition of the two.
However, the APP submitted that the third accused Ashem Brajamani is still absconding and sought judicial remand of the two stating that police need to arrest Brajamani and record his statement without any influence from the two retired officials.
After hearing both sides, the court granted 15 days judicial remand while weighing the importance of arresting the third accused.
