Ima Kombi remembered on her 19th death anniv

Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur observed the 19th death anniversary of Meira Paibi leader Kombi, better known as 'Ima Kombi' for her relentless fight against Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), As part of the observance, people paid rich floral tributes to the late Meira Paibi leader at her final resting place at Lamphel Sanakeithel.
She was the founder president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur.
The observance function was attended by Poirei Leimarol president Longjam Memchoubi, Meira Paibi Welfare Association, Kangleipak president R Rengshongak Koireng and AMUCO president Nando Luwang as presidium members.
In her address at the event, Longjam Memchoubi said thst destruction of poppy plantation is going on in full swing as part of government's 'War on Drugs' but no one arrested in connection with poppy plantation or drug haul cases have been given punishment till date.
Most of those arrested with drug haul cases are near and dear ones of ministers, MLAs and wealthy people, she said.
While recalling that Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur was established on August 25, 1985 at Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai, Memchoubi said that the organisation under the leadership Ima Kombi fought against atrocities of security forces against innocent civilians and human rights violation.
Later, the organisation was known as apex Meira Paibi organisation of the state and started the fight against drugs as well as against killing of innocent civilians by security forces, she said, adding that the third Nupi Lal will be against drugs and intoxicants but the organisation will continue to fight against AFSPA though the draconian Act has been removed from some portions of the state.
