Discourse on medicinal, aromatic plants held

Under the National Medicinal Plant Board, Manipur State Medicinal Plants Board organised a one-day market intervention programme at horticulture farm training hall, Khonghampat on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department additional director and MIDH mission director K Debadutta Sharma, AYUSH director Dr A Guneshwor Sharma, X5 Agrotech Farm Producer Company Ltd CEO Pradeep Singh Shekhawat and Horticulture & Soil Conservation Manipur former deputy director K Jogesh Chandra Sharma as the presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, Debadutta explained that medicinal plant cultivators will be successful when they strive to access big company or market while such an endeavour will be a failure if the farmers only think of availing subsidies of bank loan and spent it for their own individual purposes.
Planting of medicinal and aromatic plants could be successful if farmer is sincere in planting such plants, he maintained.
Meanwhile, Dr Guneshwor stressed on the need for forming a policy to develop plantation of medicinal and aromatic plants and informed, that State Medicinal Plants Board has already started signing MoUs with big companies.
He urged the people to take up initiatives for preservation of various medicinal and aromatic plants available in the state and to create a market for such plants.
Around 50 farmers and entrepreneurs from different parts of the state took part in the programme.
