DESAM proposes blood banks in district hospitals

Expressing serious concern over shortage of blood in the state, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has strongly called for opening blood banks in private hospitals in Imphal and in all the district hospitals of the state to ensure availability of blood in adequate quantity.
In connection with its foundation anniversary celebration, DESAM volunteers donated blood at JNIMS and Shija Hospitals under the theme 'Maaheiroi Khunai Amadi Meeyamda Kathoklaba Ee' on Monday.
It was the 76th such blood camp organised by the students' body under the same theme.
According to health & environment secretary Oinam Surjakanta, DESAM has been organising blood donation camp every year in connection with its foundation anniversary as mark of dedication to students and public.
Ahead of the celebration on February 3, DESAM "organised" a blood-donation camp on Monday, he added.
Blood is the most valuable thing a person can present to another person as blood can save life of a person.
However, the state is facing shortage of blood and this must be solved so that no life is lost due to want of blood.
Private hospitals even in Imphal area are facing blood shortage as also in all district hospitals and"this' problem must be solved, he said and urged government to take up steps for opening blood banks in private hospitals in Imphal and district hospitals across the state.
Altogether seven DESAM volunteers donated blood at the camp.
