Imphal, November 23 2021:
Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) has clarified that the 72 hours general strike being called by some organisations from November 25 demanding sending of required recommendation to the centre for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list within November 24 is not related with the Committee.
In a release, publicity secretary W Ananda Meetei said that STDCM has been holding sit-in protests along with local clubs, organisations and meira paibi groups presently.
However, the general strike is not related with them, he reiterated.
Maintaining that the delay in sending the required recommendation by the state government has caused anger and resentment among the people, Ananda urged not to launch movement based on emotions.
All suggestions and feedbacks given by individuals or organisations are warmly received by the committee, he said, while urging all not to take up any forms of movements without consulting the Committee so as to avert confusion and misunderstanding among the masses.
Any movements launched without consulting STDCM will not be related to them, he made it clear, while adding that the consequences should be borne by the said individuals or organisations.
Regarding the comments made by some panelists in discussion programme of local TV channel stating that the present sit-in protests launched by STDCM is because of the upcoming election, Ananda clarified that the movements of ST demand has been continuously taken up despite reducing the intensity at times due to some social issues.
He further urged the people to support the sit-in protests launched by Meeteis/Meiteis, local clubs, meira paibi and other organisations.
