DESAM committee lines up 'sit-in appeal' campaign

As a part of its movement in pursuance of making educational institutions disturbance-free zone, Coordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone Demand convenor and DESAM president M Somorjit has informed that the Committee would launch sit-in appeal campaign from July 25 to 27.Speaking to media persons at DESAM's Kwakeithel office, here, on Tuesday, Somorjit informed that the Committee has been observing Disturbance-Free Educational Zone Demand Day on July 5 since 2008 by through different campaigns.
To sustain the same and as per the resolution adopted in this year's observance, a campaign on distribution of leaflets and sticking of posters is currently underway which would be followed by 'sit-in appeal' movements at educational institutes from July for realising the objective of making the education sector disturbance-free.
On July 25, the campaign would be conducted in Imphal West district, followed by Imphal East and Bishnupur districts on July 26 and on July 27 in Thoubal and Kakching districts, Somorjit informed, while adding that the campaign would be conducted at gates of schools or any suitable site from 12.15 pm to 1 pm.
Stating that banners highlighting a six-point demand would be used during the campaign, he said that the committee would provide format of the banners in soft copy to aid the educational institutes print the same.
Moreover, students would use posters and banners and raise the six demands as slogans during the democratic campaign, added the convenor.

Highlighting the importance of a disturbance-free education sector in making a strong society, he cautioned that a deteriorating education sector would have far-reaching and devastating consequences for both society and the community.
Somorjit also appealed to the people and educational institutes to support the campaign.
