Imphal, May 22 2022:
Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur has asked all roadside restaurants and cafes in the district to close their eateries by 9 pm with effect from May 23.In a release, KSO Churachandpur said that in view of the steady growth in the number and size of anti-social elements including drug abuse among the youth and criminals prowling around in the township at night, all roadside restaurants and cafes shall not operate after than 9 pm in public interest.
The move was taken as per the resolution adopted at the General Assembly of the Kuki civil societies under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Churachandpur (KIC) and as instructed by the KIC, further said KSO Churachandpur in its release.
"The KSO views the menace of drug addiction among the youths as a disease which must be cured, a gangrene which must be burnt out with the hot iron, a cancer we should do our utmost to uncompromisingly counter and a hydra with jaws open to swallow up the social order.
If the youth, who are on the crossroads of their careers, are led astray by excessive use of drugs, the future of our society shall be on the brink of great disaster", it added.
The students' body then said, "The organisation is fully committed to take the highest ethical standard and follow a zero tolerance policy to breaches of these standards" .
