Imphal, January 22 2022:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the government to issue specific SOPs to be followed during conduct of examinations.
Addressing a press meet held at DESAM office on Saturday, its secretary general Mayengbam Somorjit Luwang commented on the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the state, while informing that around 576 people including 107 students of CAU tested positive on Friday, putting the positive rate to 19.3 per cent.
Amidst this, it was reported that the examinations conducted by Board of Secondary Education (BSEM) and Council of Higher Secondary Education (CoHSEM) would be held in April this year.
Accordingly, schools are conducting pre-board and pre-council examinations.
If there are no strict precautionary measures in place, the number of positive case could skyrocket.
As such, the government should come up with a specific set of SOPs with regard to the examinations being conducted and to be conducted by BSEM, CoHSEM and CBSE, he demanded.
Informing that members of DESAM visited some of the schools holding the pre-board and pre-council examinations on Saturday; Somorjit conveyed that although strict preventive measures were in place, the number of vaccinated students in the age group of 15-18 years was found to be low.
So far, 199 positive cases have been detected among the age group of 15-18 years in this year alone, most of whom are believed to be students.
Thus, the government needs to take strict precautionary measures in this regard.
Meanwhile, colleges affiliated to Manipur University are set to conduct the first, second and third semester examinations from February 1 via online mode.
As such, the state government needs to formulate a specific set of SOP for students, he stated.
