Imphal, July 21 2014:
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and the former Lok Sabha candidate from Manipur Outer seat K. Zou has alleged that many senior officials of District Social Welfare Officers (DSWO) in the hill districts of Manipur are not executing their duties from the places of their postings but working from their homes in the valley.
According to the Aam Aadmi Party leader, these officials function from their homes in Imphal valley which is not easily accessible to the people.
"It is learnt that some officers keep the government money, office records and important files of the department in their homes," K Zou further alleged.
Several old age tribal people from the remote villages could not meet the officers every time they come to the district headquarters in the hills, he added.
K Zou also said that officials of the Social Welfare Department do not treat old age people quite well when they visited the office for submitting documents or photographs etc.
"There are complaints that these officers keep local touts (agents) to demand money from the poor, illiterate people and helpless aged people for enrolling them as old age persons in the list of senior citizens, and also for releasing the amount of the old age pensions," K Zou also alleged.
The AAP leader then warned that all the District Social Welfare Department officers must release the entire amount of the old age pension due, to all registered senior citizens of the state at the earliest possible time.
Failing which K Zou said he will be constrained to issue legal notice to the erring officers and also lodge complains to the central government for thorough inquiries on the activities of the State Social Welfare Department.
