A 2-day long awareness cum training programme on "Commercial Floriculture: Cultivation Technique and Management" has commenced at the conference hall of the department of horticulture and soil conservation near Sanjenthong on Tuesday.
The inaugural function of the programme organised by department of horticulture and soil conservation under the aegis of State Plan Scheme Development of Horticulture, was attended by horticulture and soil conservation director K Devadutta Sharma, additional director Md Zakir Hussain and commissioner Thaithuilung Panmei as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, K Devadutta informed that despite the existence of the horticulture department, the people of the state are still sourcing flowers from outside due to the department's inability to cultivate and produce flowers locally.
The department had provided greenhouses and nurseries under the MIDH to promote floriculture in the state.
Additionally, it had identified individuals and offered training outside the state.
However, no significant products or flowers have been successfully produced within the state, he lamented.
Other speakers at the event also emphasised that planting flowers not only boosts an individual s economy but also contributes to a peaceful and fulfilling life, offering opportunities for relaxation and well-being.
