Outreach programme for taxpayers held

Income Tax Department, North East Region, Imphal on Thursday organised an Outreach Programme for Tax Payers at INA Hall, Moirang.
The outreach programme was held under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and North East Region Converses on the topic - 'Importance of Paying Taxes and Ease of Tax Compliance' .
Income Tax Imphal range additional commissioner Ng Joseph Gangte, while stressing, on the importance of paying taxes, stated that development of a country is determined by the number of tax payers.
It is through tax that the government is able to provide basic facilities for the citizen of the country, he said, adding that collection of Rs 100 crore in income tax during the last financial year is an indication that the state is now able to contribute towards the cause of nation building.
Joseph also explained about the new pro visions under Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and said income from transfer of virtual digital assets or crypto currencies is taxable at 30 per cent from April 2022 .
He urged the gathering to be ambassadors in contributing, to the development of the country by regularly paying tax.
Imphal Ward No 1 income tax officer Laishram Ramcharan Singh gave a PowerPoint presentation on - 'Importance of Paying Taxes and Ease of Tax Compliance for salaried as well as non-salaried tax payers'.
During a presentation on duties of tax payers and DDOs, he stated that it is the duty of taxpayers to extend full cooperation to IT department and comply with tax laws and regulations by paying tax timely and accurately.
Speaking on the occasion, Bishnupur treasury officer L Ratankumar Singh highlighted the importance of paying income tax and timely filing of return.
As a part of the programme, recipient of Dr Ambedkar National Award 2021 (Art & Cultufe) Neha Yumkhaibam, septuagenarian Landuanlung Kamei, who single-handedly planted marigold flower along the 2 km long Old Cachar road in Bishnupur to Khoupum area, and cyclist social activist Philem Rohan Singh, were among 11 distinguished personalities felicitated for their contributions in various fields.
Government and PSU Officials, entrepreneurs and students participated iti the programme.
