Bus used in transporting CRPF troopers torched in Kangpokpi

Imphal, June 18 2024:
A bus belonging to a Meetei owner but used for transportation of CRPF personnel was burned by suspected Kuki volunteers at Kangpokpi Bazar on Monday night.
Source said that the bus was hired by the government for transportation of CRPF personnel deployed in the state to maintain law and,order.
On Monday around 9 pm, Kuki volunteers stopped the bus coming from Dimapur (Nagaland) for checking and found its owner to be a Meetei, following which they set on fire the vehicle.
It is informed that a group of pebple belonging to the Kuki community stopped the bus near the Brig Thomas ground and insisted that they would check if any member of a particular community were on board, as some of them set the bus on fire in the presence of security personnel after finding that the vehicle belonged to.
A fire tender from the Kangpokpi district headquarters rushed to the spot but the angry mob prevented the water tender from entering the site.
A police case has reportedly been registered and investigations underway.
