Imphal, January 18 2022:
Several customers of State Bank of India (SBI) were left high and dry after the SBI MG Avenue and Paona Keithel branch offices remained closed on Tuesday following detection of Covid positive cases among its staff members.
According to a customer, who visited the bank's office at MG Avenue, several customers were unable to withdraw or deposit money as the two SBI branches remained closed to public including their ATM booths.
Many of the customers could be in an emergency situation for sending money to their near and dear ones and many might be in need of withdrawing large sum of money for medical expenses or other emergencies.
As such, denying service to the customers owing to detection of a Covid positive case is unreasonable, the customer said.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over the closure of ATM booths.
Besides, these ATM booths at MG Avenue could be opened 24/7 as there is adequate security presence in the area, the customer reasoned.
Meanwhile, a source from the bank said that it remained closed to the public but carried out limited transaction only for government services on Tuesday following detection of Covid positive cases among its staff members on Monday.
However, their normal services will resume from Wednesday with necessary precautions, the source added.
