'Hindi Week' begins; Hindi Diwas celebrated

Manipur Hindi Parishad (MHP), Imphal president Ramnath Prasad launched the weeklong celebration of 'Hindi Week', here, on Wednesday.
In a release, MHP publicity secretary Heikham Mocha Singh informed that during the programme, experts including Dr Surendra Singh spoke on importance of Hindi language.
Meanwhile, NYK Thoubal launched Hindi Diwas Fortnight at the multipurpose hall, NYK office Thoubal.
As part of the celebration, a review and preparatory meeting was held.
Yuva Utsav, IVEP (Intensive Volunteer Enrolment Program), SEVA (Social Empowerment through Voluntary Activities) will be held in the coming weeks.
Activities to encourage use and promotion of Rajbhasa-Hindi among the youth will be organised during the Fortnight at different villages of Thoubal and Kakching by NYK volunteers in collaboration with youth clubs.
Essay writing competition, speaking, singing, recitation of poem in Hindi will also be organised as part of the programme.
As part of IVEP, NYK volunteers will also enrol 1000 youths of Thoubal & Kakching who are not active members of youth clubs but have interest in voluntary and allied activities like Blood Donation Camps, Tree Plantation, Awareness RallifeS & Programmes, Social Service & Cleanliness Drives.
NYK Thoubal and District Administration will organise such camps under SEVA where they can be deployed.
Meanwhile, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Department of Biotechnology, ministry of Science and Technology celebrated Hindi Diwas with all the scientists, scholars and staff on Wednesday.
During the programme, IBSD director Prof Pulok K Mukherjee highlighted about research activities of IBSD and initiatives for reaching common people of the state.
He mentioned that Hindi plays important role to highlight research activities among farmers, healers and entrepreneurs.
The programme was also addressed by All India Radio, Imphal Official Language assistant director Vedanti Leimapokpam, who highlighted about the importance of Hindi Diwas and called upon all the staff members to use Hindi in official activities.
During the event, scientists from IBSD delivered talks in Hindi and read the forwarded message from ministry's secretary and Department of Biotechnology secretary.
Prizes were also distributed to all the speakers and participants as part of the event.
